संसार ने दंभ भक्ति करने वालों को एक उपाधि दी है—बगुला भक्त नदी आदि में जहां जीव-जन्तुओं का बाहुल्य हो वहां बगुला एक टांग पर खड़ा रह स्थित हो जाता है। पर जैसे ही कोई जीव का आभास निकटता में उसे होता है वह उसे झपटकर अपने पेट का पोषण कर लेता है। उसी प्रकार अपनी स्वार्थवृत्ति की पूर्णता हेतु कुछ लोग आडंबर रूप धार्मिक बनते है पर मुंह में राम बगल में छुरी इस कहावत को समय पर चरितार्थ भी कर दिखाते है।
एक भंवर कमल के फूल पर रस का आसेवन करता हुआ इस आशा से कि सुबह तो कमल खुल जाएगा तब उड़ जाऊंगा अभी क्यों इस मधुर रस से स्वयं को वंचित रखूं कमल के पुष्प में बंद हो जाता है पर उसी रात एक हाथी नदी में उतरकर अपनी उदरपूर्ती हेतु उस फूल को अपना ग्रास बना लेता है। भंवरे की रस आसक्ति ही उसके मृत्यु का कारण बन जाती है।
अटैचमेंट को समस्याओं का गेट कहा गया है। आसक्ति मुक्ति की बाधक है। कमल का उत्पत्ति स्थान कीचड़ है, वह कीचड़ के बिना पैदा हो ही नहीं सकता परन्तु कभी भी कीचड़ से लिप्त नहीं होता। कमल कीचड़ में नहीं वरन् कीचड़ पर रहता है यही अनासक्ति का सूत्र है कि हम संसार में रहे पर संसार हमारे भीतर नहीं रहे।
परिवार में सामञ्जस्य ही सुखी परिवार की रीढ़ बनता है। उसमें भी मुख्य रोल होता है सास-बहू का। सास-बहू की कलह परिवार की एकता को कलुषित कर डालती है साथ-साथ परलोक में भी तपती रेत में उसे फलस्वरूप भूना जाता है।
अगाध समुद्र भी पार हो सकता है अगर नौका दोषरहित हो और यदि एक छोटा सा छिद्र भी नौका में है तो समुद्र तो क्या एक छोटा तालाब भी उसे डूबाने की क्षमता रखता है। उसी प्रकार जीवन में कितनी भी ऊंचाइयां हासिल हो जाए पर एक दुर्गुण भी जीवन में है तो सफलता की इमारत को गिरते देर नहीं लगती।
The world has given a title to hypocritical devotees—"Crane-like Devotee" (Bagula Bhakt). Where there is an abundance of aquatic creatures in rivers or other water bodies, a crane stands still on one leg. But as soon as it senses a living creature nearby, it pounces on it and feeds itself. Similarly, to fulfill their selfish motives, some people pretend to be religious, but at the right time, they prove the saying "A rose in the mouth, a dagger in the belt" (Ram in the mouth, knife in the pocket).
A bumblebee, while sipping nectar on a lotus flower with the hope that the lotus will bloom in the morning and it will fly away—so why deprive itself of this sweet nectar now—gets enclosed inside the lotus flower. But that very night, an elephant enters the river to fill its stomach and consumes that flower. The bumblebee's attachment to the nectar becomes the very cause of its death.
Attachment has been called the gateway to problems. Attachment is an obstacle to liberation. The birthplace of a lotus is mud; it cannot be born without mud, yet it never gets stained by the mud. The lotus lives on the mud, not in the mud—this is the formula of detachment: that we live in the world, but the world does not live within us.
Harmony within the family becomes the backbone of a happy family. In that, the primary role belongs to the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The feud between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law tarnishes the unity of the family, and as a consequence, they are roasted in burning sand in the next world as well.
Even a vast ocean can be crossed if the boat is flawless, but if there is even a small hole in the boat, then forget the ocean, even a small pond has the capacity to sink it. Similarly, no matter how many heights are achieved in life, if there is even a single vice in life, it does not take long for the building of success to crumble.
